subject aims to provide students with an understanding of the social
determinants of health for Australia’s First Peoples and how professionals
might work in collaboration with communities to reduce health inequalities. In
this subject students will study the cultures, histories, and contemporary
social and political issues affecting Australia’s First Peoples. Themes focus
on: morbidity and mortality, chronic disease and mental health; health policy
and services; access and barriers to utilisation of health services; and
intercultural communication skills.
